This walking tour of the city center will introduce you to the main monuments of Florence and the role of the Jewish community in Florentine Renaissance. It is with the rise to power of the Medici family that the Jews acquire special significance in Florence, both thanks to their banking activities and as depositors of ancient knowledge now researched by the powerful elites.
The fate of the city intertwined with the fate of its Jews: it is reborn when the community flourishes and it subsides when the community is expelled. As we stroll between the most famous landmarks of Florence, we will discover how the Tanakh influenced Renaissance art, how Jewish scholars contributed to the Renaissance thought, see where Jews used to live and pray in Florence, admire Michelangelo's hellenistic David (and discuss why), and visit one of the most beautiful synagogues of Italy today.
